If you’re looking for a new fitness challenge this spring, then why not give Swimathon a go? It’s perfect for swimmers of all ages, abilities and fitness levels.
There are distances to suit everyone, whether you’re relatively new to swimming or an experienced lane swimmer. As well as being a great fitness challenge, it’s also a fantastic way to raise money for two of the biggest cancer charities in the country – Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.
Taking place over the weekend of March 27th– 29th 2020, you’ll be joining thousands of other swimmers across the country – including Team GB swimming stars Duncan Goodhew and Mark Foster – in taking part in the Swimathon, and your local Everyone Active pool is the ideal place to get going!
What is Swimathon?
Swimathon is a nationwide money-raising swimming challenge that will take place on March 27th-29th this year and raises vital funds each year for two of the country’s largest charities. The first of these is Cancer Research UK, which uses the money to fund research into defeating cancer. The second is Marie Curie, which helps nurse people through terminal illness, including cancer.
Participants can take on distances ranging from 400m to the Triple 5k as an individual. This last challenge requires you to swim 5km three times, each one at a different pool. Furthermore, you can also enter as a team. If, however, you are entering as a team, you can only enter for either the 1.5- or 5km challenges.
As a reward for completing your distance, you’ll also receive a Swimathon-branded swim hat and a medal, too.
This year marks the 33rd running of the event, which has helped to raise more than £50 million for good causes in that time.
How do I get involved?
If you’re participating in this year’s event, then you just have to go to the Swimathon website and register yourself or your team and pay your entrance fee. Once you’ve registered, you’re free to start swimming at any participating pool and raising as much money as possible!
Where can I take part in Swimathon?
There are more than 600 pools across the UK that are participating in this year’s Swimathon, of which over 120 are Everyone Active pools. You can complete your Swimathon challenge at any one of our swimming pools, although if you’re taking on the mighty Triple 5km, then you’ll need to visit three in order for it to count!
